Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 16th September
We've had another jam-packed week here in Year 2!
In English we have been learning about verbs, something we learnt about before in Year 1. But things got trickier when we realised that some verbs need the consonant doubling before adding -ed and some verbs (irregular) don't use -ed at all! We're looking forward to using verbs with our expanded noun phrases to create some really interesting pieces of writing.
In Maths we looked at partitioning numbers again, but this time we thought about flexible partitioning and how, for example, 21 = 20+1 but it can also be 21=10+11. We then looked at numbers on a number line, and how these can also represent our 2-digit numbers.
In Guided Reading we have been looking at the story The Lion Inside - a story all about how a mouse found his courage. We thought about synonyms for words and practised our retrieval skills using scan and search methods, as well as some comprehension questions.
In the afternoons, we learnt about habitats in Science, human and physical features in Geography and discussed how to manage our emotions using the Zones of Regulation in PSHE.
Next week is European Day of Languages with an in-school competition to see how many different ways we can say 'hello'. Can you practise any over the weekend?!
