Week 3 brought with it the continuation of English, Mathematics and The Tudor (Learning Theme), but it also provided an opportunity unlike any other - The Young Shakespeare Company.
Old Billy Wigglestick
As part of our study of Macbeth, the Young Shakespeare Company visit Year 6 to perform their version of one of Shakespeare's most famous tragedies. To find out more about the experience, read the blog post published on the day.
Exciting English
In English, the children continued to consider the early events of the Macbeth by assuming the role of Banquo. Writing a diary entry, the children considered how Banquo might have felt prior to his battle with the Norwegians; the difficult journey home and the prophecies provided by the weird sisters. Practising common contractions, relative clauses and suffixes helped the children to develop their understanding and application of informal writing techniques; applying them to capture the voice of a key character.
Did you know?
Contractions are shortened versions of words created by putting two words together, omitting some letters and replacing the omitted letters with an apostrophe.
did not = didn’t
was not = wasn’t
Marvellous Mathematics
Within Mathematics, Year 6 continues to focus on number and place value with numbers up to 10,000,000. This week, the children learnt about:
- multiplying and dividing integers by powers of 10.
- identifying and representing numbers (up to 10,000,000) on a number line.
- comparing and ordering numbers (up to 10,000,000).
- rounding integers to given points.
Challenging Computing
In this unit, the children will be learning to edit and manipulate images using photo editing software to change hues, size, textures and much more. Within this initial lesson, the children were given time to 'tinker' with the software (BeFunky) to edit and manipulate images of Henry VIII. Here is how the children got on...
NOTE: In order to meet the needs of the children within each class, as well as changes to time tables, not all classes will have completed the same lessons at the same time.
