Marvellous Mathematics

In Mathematics, Year Six have been learning about negative numbers and rounding. When rounding, if the digit you need to focus on is below 5, we needed to round down. However, if the digit was over 5, we would need to round up.

In other lessons, when we learnt about negative numbers, we had to order them from ascending to descending, calculate the difference between them and place them on number lines with different intervals.

Physical Education

In PE, Year Six have been learning to  play hockey and tag rugby. In hockey, we have been learning how to dribble by jogging round cones using the hockey stick to guide the ball. We have also learnt different types of dribbles. After the session of dribbling and practising skills, we participated in small hockey matches. As part of the warm down, we spend time at the end of the lesson playing a game of continuous rock, paper, scissors or head, shoulders, knees, ball.

Super Science

In science this week, we learnt about refractions. Refraction is when light rays bend when passing between materials such as in water. Refraction - WikipediaWe spent time learning about what refraction was and examples of when it occurs. We explored the scientific method and used this to begin to form a plan ahead of the next lesson.

Delightful DT

Everything to know about Tudor houses – and the best ones to visit | House & Garden

In DT, we have been learning about Tudor houses and exploring the similarities and differences between rich and poor households, including the inclusion of second floors and overhangs known as jetties.

Exciting English

In English, we continued our study of Macbeth and began writing an informal letter, as Lady Macbeth, to her husband. In our piece, we had to learn about and use common contractions and find ways to show parts of her evil character without making it explicit.

Horrible History

Were The Reigns of Catherine de' Medici and Mary I of England as violent as popular historic thought have allowed us to believe? – Retrospect Journal

In history,  we have been learning about Mary I and exploring the circumstances of her life and reign to decide if she deserved the nickname, 'Bloody Mary'. From her burning of 834 protestant heretics to her husband's lack of commitment, we explored different primary and secondary sources (including data) to make a decision. Using this evidence, we had to justify our point of view.
