Coten End Primary School
Week Begining 07/10/24
This past week in Year 1 has indeed been a thrilling and invigorating experience for our young learners. In our science lessons, we embarked on an exciting exploration of our senses through a series of engaging experiments. The children took turns guessing a variety of smells and savouring different tastes, ranging from crisps to jam, and even zesty lemon juice. Their reactions were priceless, as they discovered the delightful and sometimes surprising characteristics of these sensory experiences. To further challenge their tactile skills, we introduced a 'feeling box' filled with assorted items, prompting them to guess the contents based solely on touch.
In English, we have been immersing ourselves in the world of verbs by applying the suffix ‘-ing’. This has enabled the children to articulate their strengths and areas for improvement through thoughtful sentences, showcasing their growing confidence with language.
Meanwhile, our maths sessions have focused on the part-whole model, where the children have started crafting number sentences to accompany their findings. It has been wonderful to witness their enthusiasm and progress in all subjects this week.
As always, I am immensely proud of their hard work and curiosity—here’s to another week of learning and discovery ahead!
