Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 25.11.24
What a truly enchanting week it has been in Year 5! The magic was in the air, and our wonderful wizards and witches have been working hard across all their lessons to create something truly special.
In English, our budding authors continued with their narrative writing, weaving their own magical tales with creativity and flair. We are so impressed with how their storytelling skills are blossoming—who knows, perhaps there are future J.K. Rowling among us!
In Geography, Year 5 delved into the fascinating world of map reading and learned how to use six-figure grid references to locate places with pinpoint accuracy. They worked hard to master this tricky skill and applied it to maps in class.
Over in Dance, Year 5 explored storytelling through movement and expression, using potion-making as their inspiration. Watching their creative interpretations of bubbling cauldrons and swirling potions come to life on the dance floor was spellbinding.
In DT, the children embraced their inner crafty wizards and witches! They demonstrated exceptional skill in stitching techniques, mastering overstitch, running stitch, backstitch, and blanket stitch. After carefully cutting their templates and pinning their banner pieces together, they are ready to begin sewing their masterpieces next week. Their focus and attention to detail were magical to behold.
To top it all off, we ended the week with an incredible Harry Potter-themed day! Coten End Hogwarts was alive with energy and excitement. Our day began with a fantastic celebration assembly led by none other than Albus Dumbledore himself! Year 5 then explored the art of magically delivering secret messages using paper flowers and water, dabbled in potion-making experiments, and even hand-crafted their very own magical wands. In the afternoon, the House teams gathered for a thrilling game of Quidditch on the field. It was a nail-biting match, and a huge congratulations goes to Rubies for their victory.
A great effort from everyone— from their incredible costumes to bringing so much enthusiasm and engagement to the day. The positive energy they put into every activity this week has been truly magical.
Well done, Year 5!
