Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 27.01.25
This week Year 5 have been design technologists and have designed and created their own motorised vehicles.
Using the Lunar Rover as inspiration, the children constructed their own working models and demonstrated so many of our school values as well as technical skills.
To achieve the end product they had to:
- construct a chassis by measuring, sawing and glueing wood together - re-enforcing it to provide a strong base.
- construct a pair of axles that would allow the wheels to move.
- build in a pulley system so that their axle can be attached to their motor.
- put together a series circuit comprising of a motor, switch and battery pack.
- attach their circuit to their model securely.
All of Year 5 impressed with their collaboration, determination and curiosity to get the task completed. It was not easy but all rose to the challenge. As well as this, they showed considerable kindness and responsibility when working together along with courage to challenge each other if they could see improvements that needed making.
All in all, this has been an incredible week of maths, science and engineering in Year 5. Perhaps we have the car designers of the future in this year group.
