'Hello' Year One children and parents and a great big welcome to our new website and the Year One blog. Each week a member of the Year One team will upload a brief run down of what we have been doing over the course of the week. We do hope you enjoy reading it.

The children all returned to school bright and excited and settled into the new routines really quickly. It is a huge transition period from Reception to Year One as learning becomes more structured and formal.

Our theme this term is 'Incredible You' and is based on the book by Rhys Brisenden and Nathan Reed. It provides a focus for us to consider how we are all amazing and everyone has something to special to offer. The children have enjoyed writing through Drawing Club (this is a continuation of creative writing from Reception) and have produced lots of brilliant work. In Maths the focus has been on Place Value and we have covered counting objects, sorting objects, one more/one less than a given number. Naming body parts, considering what makes a healthy diet and thinking about the role of a Nutritionist has been the basis of our work in Science. We will start to think about primary and secondary colours in Art next week.
