Coten End Primary School
Week Beginning 30/09/24
What a busy week it has been in Year 5!
We have wrapped up our place value unit in maths, mastering how to understand and use them confidently.
In English, we have completed our diary entries inspired by our key text – “Oh Maya Gods”. We have been so impressed with how Year 5 was able to express their thoughts and feelings creatively, capturing the essence of the story. Now, we have been starting to look at Non-Chronological Reports.
Our science lessons have been hands-on and exciting! This week, we investigated water resistance and how it affects objects moving through water. Year 5 conducted their investigation, making predictions and creating different shapes to draw out their conclusions. Additionally, in the last three weeks, each Year 5 class has had the opportunity to spend one fantastic science afternoon at Warwick School. They explored household products and discovered which ones are acids and alkalis. Year 5 even did an amazing job placing these items on the pH scale!
Our journey into the Marvellous Mayans also continues. We have been learning about the structure of Maya civilisation, delving into their fascinating culture and history. Moreover, in art, year 5 have started creating their very own Maya masks using modroc. Year 5 have been using their creativity and skills to design unique pieces that reflect the rich heritage of the Maya. We are looking forward to seeing these masks come to life!
