This week Year 5 delved deeper into their Maya topic through the help of a real expert. 

Simon, who has explored the rainforests of Central America himself, came in and spent a day with each class providing a wealth of information about these fascinating people. 

Throughout the day, the children were given a range of activities to do, and they all completed their own Maya Explorer workbook. The children were able to make full use of the school value of curiosity and asked many questions about what life was like over 1,500 years ago in the tropical rainforests. 

He showed the children some artefacts and pictures of their civilsation as well as the wide variety of wildlife and plant life that can be found where they used to live. Some of the children even had an opportunity to dress up like a real life Mayan.
