Coten End Primary School

Week Beginning 3rd March

This week we celebrated World Book Day!

Our school chose a theme of folk tales from around the world and our year group read stories from Africa!

Our first story, Why Anansi Has Eight Skinny Legs, was a story from Western Africa. It told the story of a lazy spider called Anansi who wanted to eat at all his friend's houses, but didn't want to help out with chores. So he tied his legs to each of their pots of stew and asked for his friends to pull on the web when dinner was ready. Unfortunately for Anansi, all the animals pulled at once, and that was how his legs became skinny!

We used this tale to then write our own version of How the Giraffe got his Long Neck or How the Elephant got his Long Trunk. We drew a story map to plot out the events and then wrote our tales - they were fantastic!

We also read the African tale of Why the Sun and the Moon Live in the Sky and created some artwork about it.

On Friday, we all got to dress up as our favourite book characters. In the afternoon, we were lucky to have Year 6 join us for some paired reading. It was a fantastic day and the costumes were amazing!
