Coten End Primary School

Week Beginning 24th March

This week, Year  2 delved deeper into this half term's geographical learning theme 'Blue Planet' by looking at the affects of pollution and climate change on coral reefs. The children conducted an experiment to highlight the damage caused by coral bleaching and used egg shells and vinegar to see the impact chemicals can have on such delicate natural materials. In science, we have also enjoyed learning about different ocean habitats, with a focus on animals that live in coral reefs and why they help the animals that live their to survive.

In English, we used the story, Somebody Swallowed Stanley to create character and setting descriptions, making sure that we included lots of exciting adjectives and the co-ordinating conjunctions and, but and or. We have also been busy in Maths - we have been working hard to identify and record different fractions of shapes and amounts.
