Coten End Primary School
Attendance
Good school attendance habits are best started early. Children learn from those around them and you as parents/carers set the standards and expectations for them. Showing your child, the importance of attending school every day not only helps your child to settle quickly when starting school but helps them to keep and maintain friendships, make good academic progress and develop positive life skills. Attending school regularly is a crucial factor in your child's academic success and personal development. We believe that a solid foundation of attendance will contribute significantly to your child’s overall growth and development.
We understand that there may be occasions when your child is unable to attend school due to illness or other valid reasons. In such cases, we kindly request that you inform the school by 9.30am each morning of absence via the app, email or telephone. This allows us to keep an accurate record and provide appropriate support to your child following their absence. We understand that it can be difficult deciding whether or not to keep you child off school when they are unwell. Please find below a link to updated government guidance for parents when making this decision:

To further support good attendance, we have implemented several measures within the school. These include regular monitoring of attendance rates, interventions for pupils who may be experiencing difficulties in attending regularly and additional targeted support for families.
We also encourage you, as parents, to play an active role in promoting good attendance and punctuality. To help facilitate this, we kindly request that you:
- Ensure your child arrives promptly at school each day.
- Schedule medical/dental appointments outside of school hours.
- Do not take holidays during term time.
- Seek support if you have concerns about your child’s attendance.
At times, children can feel overwhelmed or anxious about coming to school. This can happen at any age, and it can be more common amongst children with additional or special educational needs (SEN). There can be many reasons why your child might experience school anxiety, but dealing with it can be stressful for you as a parent, as well as your child. You may also wish to contact Mrs. Kerry Pope ( Acting Deputy Headteacher and Inclusion Manager, Mrs. Nicky Pittaway (Parent Support Advisor) or Mrs. Liz Munday (SENDCo) for further information of support.
